If you use a computer you are familiar with the experience. You are working on that crucial presentation for tomorrow, it’s late, you are nearly done when suddenly, your computer shuts down. You stare at the screen, waiting for it to come back up, but it doesn’t reboot. It’s an utter and complete disaster! Well, there are some things you can do to solve some basic computer problems, even if you are a complete layman. So  here are some home computer repair tips to keep you ticking over until you call in the professionals.

Have you tried turning it off and on again? Believe it or not, this is actually a great way to solve many of the niggling little problems that crop up during long computer sessions, like sluggish response time, a frozen mouse etc.

Check the connectors: If your mouse stops working, unplug it and plug it back in. Same with any other peripheral like the keyboard, the external hard disk etc.

Do the virus-scan : You do have an anti-virus software installed, right? Because if you don’t you need to get one ASAP, especially if you go online frequently. Well, if you are facing problems like a frequently freezing system, blocked access to certain folders or erratic mouse behavior, its probably a virus. Do a full system scan and see if the problem persists.

Defrag : In general, its a good idea to defragment your hard drive every few months or so. If you notice your machine working slower than it used to, or your hard drive having less free space than it should, a full disk defrag tends to ease things up a bit. While Windows has its own defragment utility software, there are plenty of third party defragmentors available too, so take your pick.

While these are some of the basic computer repair tips for the absolute layman, it’s not a good idea to probe any deeper into your machine. Fiddling with the components inside your cabinet is especially dangerous as even the lightest touch or one crossed wire can fry your system. So any time these basic actions don’t solve your problems, it’s best to go to the professionals for computer repair. Mission Viejo, CA is a city with a computer in every home, and multiple in offices, which is why there are plenty of computer repair service providers in the area. If you are a resident of the city looking for computer repair services, just go online and look around – but make sure the people you call are experienced, seasoned professionals.
