Plantar fasciitis is a painful condition that afflicts the area near the heel. However, it is not just the heel that is affected. Instead, it is caused by inflammation of the entire plantar fascia, which runs across the bottom of your foot from the toes to the heels. It typically feels worst in the morning when you first step on your foot. The more you move, the better it will feel. However, after resting your foot, the pain will be increased once again.

You will certainly want to find a treatment that works for this sharp pain that may make it difficult for you to exercise or even live your everyday life. Other than losing weight, taking time to rest your feet or finding proper foot gear, there are a few different treatments that your foot doctor in Chatham may prescribe based on your needs and complaints.

Mild pain may be easily treated with an oral anti-inflammatory medication, such as one that you can easily get over the counter. However, further treatment may be necessary to rebuild the strength in the foot and to stretch the plantar fascia to prevent further problems. Your foot doctor in Chatham may prescribe physical therapy or splints that you can wear at night. Arch supports or specially designed shoes can also help some. However, more intensive treatments may be necessary for severe cases and could include steroidal injections, a Tenex procedure for nonsurgical relief or surgery to remove the fascia from the heel.

If you have been struggling with this or any other type of foot pain, we encourage you to contact Mitchell Foot and Ankle at https://www.hydeparkfootdoctor.com or by telephone to learn more about what services you may be able to receive and to set up your first appointment.
