Grinding is one method for finishing off a product. For some companies, the process is the removal of many rough edges to produce a fine finish. For others grinding is more than providing components with an admirable finish. In the aerospace industry, a highly polished finish is not as important as low tolerances and finely honed dimensions are. For this reason, they hire only those experienced in and capable of delivering precision grinding.

Aerospace industry and Precision Grinding

Grinding has the ability to generate tight finished and visibly defined small parts. In the aerospace industry, the demand for producing components to exacting specifications is requisite. Any grinding company seeking work from this industry has to be able to deliver not merely precise but extreme precision in every part they create and deliver.

Such levels of precision grinding are essential when addressing the tight tolerance of various components. Among the parts machinists find themselves working on are:

     * Engine Seals: The size, unusual shapes, and tolerances of these parts can prove to be challenging for grinders. Yet, it is imperative that the grinders produce precise tolerance, never varying from the company’s specifications. Grinders also must take extreme care that, during the grinding process, they do not negatively affect the coating on the engine parts.
     * Landing Gears: As with the case of engine seals, it is necessary to make are the grinding meets the specifications  exactly. Tolerances are tight, and the presence of various protective coatings must not be impacted during the grinding process.

Grinding work on aerospace components requires the talent and skill of experienced and skilled machinists if the work is to reach the level of precision this industry requires.

Precision Grinding

While many companies require grinding to provide the finishing touches to their products, some require more. In the aerospace industry, rigid specifications with high tolerances are essential. The only means of reaching such high expectations is through precision grinding.
