What Is a Bed Bug?

Cimex lectularius, or the common name, bed bugs, are parasitic insects. Their bodies are small and flat, and they are a rusty brown color. They do not have wings, can grow to be about the size of a penny, and they feed on blood.

Bed bugs live everywhere. They can be found on all continents except Antarctica. They make their home in the areas where people sleep, generally the bed, but they can travel up to 100 feet at night to find a meal. What Are the Signs Bed Bugs Have Taken Up Residence?

The simplest way to tell if you have a bed bug problem is the appearance of bite marks. If you or a family member wakes up with bite marks on the arms, legs, face, or any other part of the body that was exposed while sleeping, you may want to think about bed bug treatment. However, as some people do not show any symptoms of being bit, there are other ways to spot a problem. Finding live bugs or exoskeletons in or around the bed or seeing rust or blood-colored spots on the bedding or mattress which is actually bed bug excrement.
