Traveling to South Africa for your first safari can be exciting and nerve-racking if you don’t know what’s in store!  Be sure to follow these basic tips to have a fun and carefree trip.  Who knows what you might discover on your adventure!

Best Time of Year to Go

The best time to travel to South Africa depends on what you plan to do.  For South Africa safari tours, book your trip between May and November in order to ensure that you have the best view of the animals.  Since many of the trees and shrubs will have no leaves and the grass will be shorter, it will be the easiest time of year for you to see the amazing African wildlife.  Towards the end of this time frame, around November, you’ll also have more of a chance to see the wildlife babies—many of these beautiful animals give birth around this time of year.  Since this is winter in Africa, though, it might be a little on the chilly side.  The benefit, however, is that you will avoid any nasty sunburn and there will be fewer mosquitos.

What to Bring

South Africa safari tours can certainly be a once in a lifetime experience.  Make sure you plan accordingly in order to have the most memorable time possible.  Because you will likely be headed on your safari during South Africa’s wintertime, be sure to pack warm clothes!  Layers are great, because they can be added or taken off as the temperature changes, and always remember to bring a warm hat and gloves!  And, obviously, make sure to pack your best pair of binoculars and your most high-tech camera!  You’ll want to be able to see any wildlife that you might come across at a distance.  And you’ll certainly want to be able to capture the memories via camera in order to remember your safari forever and share it with your friends back home.
